Who We Are
Hope For The Needy Uganda (HONU) is a faith-based, community-based nonprofit organization founded with a vision to bring lasting transformation to underserved communities. Located in Kassanda District. The area of services however extends to Mityana, Mubende, Hoima, Kiboga and currently Kampala and Wakiso Districts where some of the students in HONU schools come from. The Vocational Institute has for the last two years enrolled students from Kumi, Pallisa, Bukedea and Butebo Districts in Eastern Uganda.
Since the last 44 Years (started in 1981), HONU continues to engage in serving communities in abject poverty with a Vision of having, “A Transformed and Empowered Community for Self-reliance”. Our roots lie in recognizing the widespread needs in rural Uganda — poverty, lack of opportunity, and limited access to education and social support — and responding with sustainable, dignity-preserving initiatives.

Vision: To transform and create a self-reliant community through skilling, social economic empowerment, and faith-led social service.
Mission: To empower individuals and communities to become self-reliant, through skills training, economic opportunities, caring support, and a foundation of godly values. Mandate: ”To Transform Community mindset and Lives for a Better Future”
(Problem analysis of Kitokolo- Bukuya- Kassanda community showed that people are lazy, don’t care about education, practice witchcraft, child marriages, drunkards etc.)

Leadership & Team
Our team is composed of dedicated local staff, volunteers, and community leaders. We believe in empowering people from within the community — both as beneficiaries and as active changemakers under the leadership of Annette Akankwasa the Executive Director.
